What is a Beautifully Broken Marriage?
A Beautifully Broken Marriage is a marital relationship involving a man and a woman who recognize their own inadequacy and insufficiency apart from Jesus Christ.
When they decide to get married and start living together, they become even more aware of their spiritually bankrupt state. It is revealed that Christ is the one that must take their marriage from Broken to Beautiful, because when two sinners join their lives together, sin and brokenness are magnified.
Their need for Christ is increased more and more. In a Beautifully Broken Marriage, husband and wife live out their vows daily in spite of the “worse” that comes with being a flawed human. They take quitting off the table, because Jesus is the leader of the marital relationship.
They see each other as image bearers of God and make every effort to bring the “better” of marriage to each other. The sacrificial and unconditional love of Christ is displayed in this marital relationship as husband and wife submit their lives to Him and to each other for the good and unity of the marriage. Jesus is magnified in the Broken, so He can make us beautiful.
